I apologize - I still don't have a camera. Ms Cha Cha has spent 5 weeks in training with Dave Williams at Shady Springs Farm, but she is headed back to Many Hawks Ranch tonight. I promise to borrow a camera this weekend and gets some photos. Soon she will be going out daily with some new mare friends where she will have plenty of room to run and play.
When Cha Cha first got to Dave's she came apart a couple of times. She was wearing a saddle, and got so relaxed that she almost fell asleep. A sound outside the arena woke her up suddenly, she realized that something was on her back and she started to buck. She had not done it in 2.5 weeks, but the same thing happened last week. We were standing right in front of her talking, but she backed up first to avoid landing on us before she started bucking. So even in distress she's watching out for me.
Cha Cha is doing great - she trots over a tarp, over poles, around barrels, and walks over a wooden bridge. I have ridden her through the trees and between 2 ponds on trails; we have trotted up a some hills. I have only ridden her 6 or 7 times - a couple of times in the arena and always ending with a little trail ride; we are still negotiating many things including our ability to steer. :) It's a learning process for both of us.
She struggles a little more at the canter, although it improves all the time. Dave suspects that she may have lived mainly in a pen where she did not really have a lot of room to run. She is still figuring out how to keep her front and back united when she's on a circle. Eventually her canter will be as beautiful as her trot.
Dave says that no matter what I work on with her - the real goal is to establish a relationship where she always feels that she can look to me for help. I know that she will miss her friend Dave, but I will take good care of her. I really love this little girl!
